Since its acquisition 1992, the Sachatamia properly has been dedicated to the conservation and reforestation of its native forest, Sachatamia is now an important private ecological reserve of 300 hectares, composed mainly of primary and secondary forest, as well as reforested áreas and other áreas currently under going reforestation.
Sachatamia enjoys a privileged location within the “choco Andino” biogeographical zone, connected to the 19200 hectare Mindo-Nambillo Protected Forest. This is an área which boasts an incredible diversity in flora and fauna and is heralded as the worlds top hot-spot for birds, as the área won the world-wide Audubon bird count for the fourth time in 2008. More tan 400 species of birds have been recorded in anual tallies since 2003, earning it the title of the best place in the world for bird-watching by the Audobon Society and the ABA (American Birding Association
